What is Verification of Identity?

Verification of Identity (VOI) is a process to identify a party or parties to a conveyancing transaction. The VOI framework has been introduced by Land Registry to reduce fraud and improper land dealings.

Why is a VOI required for my property transaction?

On 9 November 2015, Land Registry (also commonly known as the 'Titles Office') imposed new requirements for lawyers and conveyancers to take reasonable steps to identify you when acting on your behalf in a property transaction in Victoria. These requirements include a face-to-face interview and the production of certain identification documents.

What identification documents do I need to bring along to my appointment with my lawyer or conveyancer?

In order for Dandanis & Associates to verify your identity, you will need to provide us with original, up-to-date documents in one of the below categories. It is prescribed that should attempt

+ to comply with the highest category first (ie; category 1) however, if you are unable to comply with this category then verification may be satisfied by compliance with the highest subsequent category.

How long is the VOI report valid for?

The report is valid for a period of 2 years. If you buy and sell property frequently, the VOI process is only required once every 2 years.

Are my identity documents stored on the mobile device?

Dandanis & Associates uses the server of Infotrack to provide this service.

All photos taken using the IDfy app are saved within the app storage until verified. All the pictures of identity documents are removed once verified.

Where is my report held?

Dandanis & Associates has contracted with Infotrack to store the report on its behalf.

InfoTrack complies with the ISO27001 Certification for storing data. Documents entered into IDfy are transmitted and stored securely in a write-only, ISO27001 certified private cloud provided database. This database is only accessible for read access via a private VPC to a few highly privileged InfoTrack administrators. All data at rest is secured using the industry certified AES256 encryption, and all data in transit is secured end-to-end, using the industry certified TLSv1, TLSv1.1, and TLSv1.2 standards, and offers the highest level of protection possible. All documents ordered as part of the report are encrypted on the server using AES256. All transport between the app and servers is secured using SSL.
